The short version. 44 Boots is a free football management game run by one person in England. We ask for an email address, a name to call you and the name of your club, because the game cannot work without them. We do not sell anything about you, we do not share it with advertisers, and there is no analytics or tracking software of any kind on this site or in the app — no Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel, no advertising SDK, no third-party cookies.
If you want your account and everything in it deleted, email privacy@44boots.com and it will be done.

For UK GDPR purposes we are the data controller for the information described below.

We do not ask for your date of birth, your address, your phone number or any payment details. The game is free and there is nothing to buy in it.
Our web server keeps a standard access log: the IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser's user-agent string. These logs are deleted after 14 days. Mail delivery logs, which contain the recipient's address, are kept for four weeks. We also count how many times each page is viewed, but that counter is a plain total and is not linked to you.
We use two cookies. Both are first-party, both are strictly necessary for things you have asked for, and there are no advertising, analytics or third-party cookies on this site — which is why you have not been shown a cookie banner.

The app stores your sign-in token in a file on your own device so you do not have to log in every time. Deleting the app removes it.
Nobody buys it, and nobody is sold it. It goes to exactly two places outside our own server:

The game carries advertising — that is what pays for it being free. It is not targeted advertising in the usual sense: nothing about you is sent to any advertiser or ad network. The adverts are held in our own database and served from our own server. If an advertiser has bought a particular county, you see their board because of the county you told us your club is in. All an advertiser is ever told is how many times their board was shown in total.
44 Boots is a family game with no gambling, alcohol or dating content, but it is not designed for young children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. We do not ask for anyone's age, so we rely on being told: if you are a parent and believe your child has registered, email privacy@44boots.com and the account and everything attached to it will be deleted.
Your account and your club are kept for as long as you have an account, because that is the game. Web server logs go after 14 days and mail logs after four weeks, as above. Some things are currently kept until you ask us to remove them — crash reports and the temporary records from head-to-head matches are not yet cleared on a schedule. We would rather tell you that than claim an automatic deletion that does not happen.
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or give you a copy of it. You can also object to how we are using it. There is no form and no charge — email privacy@44boots.com and we will deal with it within 30 days.
You can stop the game emailing you about bids, deadlines and fixtures at any time using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of those emails. We will still send you the ones you cannot opt out of, like a password reset you asked for.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
The site is served over HTTPS only. Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes and are never readable, by us or anyone else. The server takes key-only SSH, runs a firewall and installs security updates automatically, and the database is backed up. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise — but there is no payment data here to lose, and no profile of you being built.
If we ever lose control of your information in a way that puts you at risk, we will tell you and the Information Commissioner's Office, as the law requires.
44 Boots is run from England, but the server it runs on is rented from Vultr and is outside the United Kingdom, so your information is stored and processed there. Our email provider may also handle message delivery outside the UK. In both cases the transfer is covered by those providers' standard data protection terms.
If we change what we collect, we will change this page and update the date at the top. If the change is a significant one, we will tell you in the game.
